health care reform

(c&p from the The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network's Health Care Reform Blog)

"I don't think that just because you wake up in the morning that gives you the right to health care."

This statement, as reported in a prominent southeastern newspaper, was made by a woman attending a town hall meeting.

Well, this is where we disagree.

At ACS CAN, we believe that every woman deserves access to a life-saving mammogram. All Americans should have access to life-saving colon cancer screenings. To put it simply, all Americans should have access to cancer screenings and treatment.

This is a concept that goes beyond just the issue of health care reform. It is also a core part of our breast cancer campaign and drives our desire to see more funding for cancer research and cancer programs.

What do you think? Are cancer screenings a right or a privilege?
