the happy gnome

What a full full day! I could not have asked for a better day spent with family and friends.

I started the morning how I wish I could start every morning, heading out for a run with Nancy! I fueled up with some homemade banana bread smeared with some MNB (mixed nut butter) and cinnamon.

Nancy and I ended up running 7.5 miles (according to my watch - hers said 7.10ish, so we decided mine was right!), and it was an incredible 7.5 miles. We talked about life, how life sucks sometimes, future plans, and waaay future plans. You should all be jealous of our "waay future" plans! :)

I don't think we've run together, like a good run, since high school. It was such a great way to start the day. Yet another reason for us to get our butts back up to Minnesota!

I snaked on an apple on my way to lunch.

After I said farewell (until tomorrow) to Nancy, I headed over to St. Paul for lunch at the Happy Gnome and a tour of the Summit Brewing Company.

The Happy Gnome? If you haven't been there, you NEED to go as soon as possible!  It was sooo good and the service was awesome. They had a great beer menu and Maddie and I ended up splitting the Magic Hat #9.  I ordered the crispy sweet potato burrito, and stole bites of Maddie's gnocchi and Ike's Minnesota game burger (and fries!). Yum-o.

Summit was fun - the tour was kind of boring, but we got free beer at the end, so who's complaining? :)  I didn't realize that Summit isn't really that old of a company - it was established in 1986 and the original owner still runs the company today. Love.their.beer.

After all that - I was plum tired and was happy to chill outside with a new book and get a bit of reading in (with Ike and Maddie!). I also of course made some time and room for a left over s'mores brownie - see all those delicious layers??!

Looks like an interesting read!

Nat, Ted and Sylvia, as well as Maddie's friend Travis and his girlfriend came over for some kebobs. Sylvia is adorable, of course. Love her, but much to mom's disappointment, I won't be giving her a cousin anytime soon!

We had a visitor during dinner! Such a cute little guy - I was just telling Maddie yesterday how I would love to have a raccoon for a pet! Not really, but kind of...  This guy's back leg was injured, so I felt bad and fed him some chicken.

Travis made us some delicious creme caramel for dessert that was infused with lavender and lime. Let's just say that you should be sad you weren't here for dinner tonight.

Yeah for a blended family photo! Just imagine Nic is right next to me!

After everyone left, I received some not-so-good news. Life sucks sometimes.
