Being able to wake up with Nic and have breakfast with him during the week only means one thing - it is auction time at his work. Auction is a crazy busy week that only happens twice each year where the company trades out ads for merchandise and people can call in and get some ridiculous deals. Think of it as a groupon type event - you can get a $10 gift certificate to my favorite shop ever for only $6.
Anyway, even though it is a crazy time for him, it is also nice for the both of us to be able to sleep in a little and enjoy breakfast together! Love it.
Today I whipped us up some pumpkin oatmeal and I sipped on some chai that I made yesterday. Inspired by the cooler weather we were having (it is supposed to be 80 again today!) I wanted to try to recreate my favorite drink.
Chai
I used::
8 cups water
15 whole cloves
5 cinnamon sticks
6 black peppercorns
1 inch ginger
1/8 t ground nutmeg
5 Darjeeling tea bags
1 t vanilla
3 T honey
Combine the first 6 ingredients in a crockpot and cook on high for 5 hours. Turn off - add tea bags and steep for 15 mintues. Remove tea bags, add vanilla & honey. Strain.
To say the house smelled ridiculously delicous last night would be an understatement. The smell of the cinnamon and cloves filled the house with a warm fall scent. YUM.
The tea was not so bad itself either! I warmed some up this morning and added a bit of unsweetened soy milk and had a delicious latte. I am looking forward to enjoying it over some ice while I am on the road this afternoon!
