a perfect sunday

Today just might end up being the perfect Sunday.

This photo was not taken from today - but does quite a good job at representing the weather, plus I think it is a fantastic photo.

The sun is shining (okay...it is a little cold and windy, but the sun, the SUN is out!).

And Nic and I had just the right amount of activities planned in the morning leaving the rest of the afternoon free to do yard work, bake, clean, whatever:

Breakfast at Fair Grounds Coffee House in Iowa City:

Gluten free espresso chocolate chip biscotti and coffee

IMG_8468
Banana bread waffle - simple but oh so delicious

IMG_8469
Grilled tempeh - ummm...not such a fan

IMG_8470
Nic's vegan breakfast burrito and latte

I was proud of him for taking a chance on ordering this, but we both declared we are not tofu or tempeh people...

Spectated and cheered on a friend at the Old Capitol Criterium:

Warmed up with some more coffee and scones at the Java House:

I love that they brew each cup of coffee as you order it! I've never seen these brew stations until this morning.

IMG_8492
Cranberry citrus scone - stole a few bites from Nic, but it was a little too buttery for me

I absolutely love Iowa City!

I think we are both going to become full time students and move here - Maddie, will you still claim us as family if we become Hawkeyes??

Made a quick trip to Target and snagged some good deals on clothes and had an extremely difficult time picking out a 1st communion card for our friend's son. We ended up going with a fun 'congratulations' card instead of a religious card.

Had lunch at said friend's house.

And now the rest of the afternoon is free!! Yipppeee! I think I am going to spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen whipping up some fun creations.

Happy Sunday!

  1. I spent SO many hours at Java House studying when I was in law school. I loved that place!

Have you been to the hot bar in the Bread Garden market? Their soups are incredible. I would kill for their tomato basil right now.

I love Iowa City, too...that's where Tim and I met and fell in looove!

  2. Those are beautiful photos - looks like spring has finally arrived for you guys! We are still waiting...the poor runners in the EC Marathon (and half) were hit with 20+ mph winds. Ick. It is still really blowing out there and no sun... :(

  3. I'm not really a tempeh person either. I do like seitan though! As long as it is thoroughly rinsed though, that brine is nasty!

    Your Sunday looks awesome!

  4. I love the picture with the building in it. It looks like a government building of some kind. The sky is soo blue!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who stopped for coffee twice today- except I have a feeling yours was probably a little healthier than mine. =/

  7. You're making me miss Iowa City. The Java House especially. I would always study there when I was a student.

  9. I recently stumbled on your blog and love it. I also live in Iowa (Cedar Falls) and went to college in Minnesota. I also love Iowa City. My stepson is at the University and I am always looking for an excuse to visit him. Also I have been battling the weather from hell for the past few weeks while training for the Gamblers 1/2 marathon in Council Bluffs. Nice to read about running, restaurants etc from someone I can geographically relate to...
