dublin & schmitter

Oh what a beautiful morning oh what a beautiful day, da da da da...I think that's a song, right? Nic and I both had extremely long days yesterday. Nic had a very long day at work, and then played hard at Washington's first "Celebrate Your Senses" event. I was told it was a lot of fun, but I was spending my day at the Relay For Life of Louisa County. Man, what a great event it was! A huge celebration of life that brought in about 150% of its goal. As I sat with some volunteers calculating a rough estimate of their total, we were all a little shocked when we saw such a huge number. I think we triple and quadruple checked before we shared the total with everyone - holy cow people! Hardly a single eye was dry at the end of the night.

So needless to say, after such a long day...Nic and I decided to take it easy today and head out for a hike with the pup at the Schmitter Heritage Area. On there way out there, we ran across the town of Dublin, Iowa - population 11. Back in the day, 'the town of Dublin had a post office, cheese factory, blacksmith, glove factory, wagon shop, two stores, doctor and a cornet band.'

The trails at Schmitter were awesome, and more extensive than we were expecting. A great place to hike and a perfect day to do just that!

As for the rest of the day, we will try to be as lazy as possible AFTER we mow the lawn...
