garmin - you let me down

Yesterday afternoon I had my first run since my 8-miler on Sunday. You'd better believe I was so excited to use my Garmin Forerunner 405 again! I was planning on doing a 4-mile run and was pumped to utilize my "virtual partner" to keep my on track to run sub 8 minute miles. I was feeling really great and noted that I was about 45 seconds ahead of my virtual partner at about .40 miles into my run.

Lets take a few steps back - yesterday was a gorgeous day! The temperature was in the upper 60s or maybe even lower 70s, sunny with a pretty strong wind, but nothing too bad.

Well, I checked the garmin again at .46 miles and then BAM! The satellite connection was lost! Darn you garmin! I stopped on the corner while I gave it a chance to reconnect, but after a few minutes of waiting, and worrying the owner of the property that something was wrong with me, I gave up and continued on my run.

It was an amazing run and I am almost certain I came in at under 8 minute miles, but I was just a little bummed that the Garmin failed me. Maybe it was too windy?? A 3.5 miler is on the schedule today, so hopefully it will redeem itself!

In other news, the past two mornings I have eaten overnight oats. Have you heard of them? They are pretty popular on a few of the blogs I read, so I thought I'd give them a try. I've decided they are very good, but leave me feeling heavy afterwards, so maybe not the breakfast for me. Nic on the other hand LOVES them.

This morning I tried something new, and it turned out really good!

  • Cut up and apple in small chucks, drizzle on some real maple syrup and sprinkle on some cinnamon and pop in the microwave for about 90 seconds
  • Top with yogurt, granola, flax and chia seeds.
  • YUM!
Overnight oats - in case you want to try them:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup soymilk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • few spoon fulls of yogurt
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • flax
  • chia seeds
Mix everything together and let them marry overnight in the fridge!

Another beautiful day lies ahead!  Need to hammer out some work, go to a Kiwanis meeting and then enjoy the sunshine!

  1. Hey Kier.. Sometimes the garmin will do that, however, I just keep going and it usually recovers on its own.. I don't think that wind effects it, however, if it was cloudy that could be the problem... Have a great run outside today, way to make me jealous!!
