impulse shopping

Impulse grocery shopping used to be a huge problem in our house.  We'd go to the grocery store with one thing and mind and $75 walk out the doors with a ton of food that we for sure didn't need.  Not that we didn't eat the food, but back when we did this a lot, we for sure let a lot of food (and money) go to waste.  We also ended up with a lot of food that wasn't very healthy.

We've reigned in the impulse items since starting our cash budget (although that's kind of on hiatus right now...), and making a conscious effort to plan out our weekly meals or make do with what we have in the fridge.

Today after hYped I planned on going to the store to grab some soy milk (so I could enjoy some iced coffee - my new addiction!) and lo-and-behold $25 later I walked out of the store.  I'd have to say this impulse shopping trip was a little different that previous ones.  Check out the goods:

  • Ice
  • Coffee
  • Soy Milk
  • Bananas
  • Spinach
  • Apples
  • Mandarines
  • Brussell Sprouts

Walking out with bags of healthy food totally justifies the seven impulse purchases, right?!  Now we just have to make sure to eat all of it!

Time to enjoy some of that iced coffee (is it a bad idea to drink this at 8PM?!) and watch the first episode of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution.  I've heard it is really good and eye opening...has anyone seen it?
