5Ks are popping up all over the place these days! Even in small town Iowa, it seems every organization holds a 5K to raise funds for their mission. Last week I decided randomly to run in the Knight Flight 5K on Saturday, an event to raise money for the local Catholic school.
It was a beautiful day to run, and I was feeling pretty good and confident that I could beat my 5K time from a few weeks ago.
The race started, and like at all community 5Ks, about 50 kids sprinted out to the front of the pack. Well, after they took a wrong turn, I suddenly was leading the pack! :) (I didn't even think to yell out at those in front of my to turn around, whoops.) Holy cow, I forgot what this feels like - to be the front runner. Seriously, I think it was way back in 9th grade when I was the top JV distance runner!
I remained in the front of the pack until about mile 1.75 when two junior high boys caught up to me and left me in their dust. Punks. I was sure I was slowing down, and thought that many more people would pass me, but it never happened.
Yup, that's right people - 3rd place overall, 1st female finisher!
I laugh because my time was just over a minute slower than my previous 5K, but a win's a win, right?
Maybe I'll have similar luck at this weekend's Fargo Half Marathon??? hardyharhar
way to go you amazing runner you...
