Nic and I had big plans today. Big hiking plans. We love to hike and our dream vacation is a week long backpacking trip or staying/camping at an awesome location and doing day hikes. So today was going to be a taste of that dream.
However, Mother Nature had some other plans - yet she failed to inform us of what exactly she had in store before our 36 euro cab ride to our destination. By the time we got up to the beginning of our hike, it was pretty much pouring rain. We knew it was going to rain, but didn't realize it would be so extreme. But dammit, we payed about $50 to get there so we were going to hike and we were going to enjoy it.
How worried does Nic look in this photo?? I think he knew from the beginning that this hike would not last long.
And we did.
For precisely 20 minutes.
Oh well. We saw some sweet views and know where to come next time we are in the area!
Our thoughts on our $100 - 20 minute hike...
After we called it quits, we headed into the hotel's bar ordered a hot chocolate and called a cab.
We got back to the condo, made some lunch and took a nice nap - a perfect way to end our vacation, right?!
After waking up from our 2 hour nap (was supposed to be 30 minutes...whoops!) we decided to hit up the resort's gym to get in a quick workout. As we headed out the door, the rest of the family returned from their day trip to Cordoba. Their trip was also cut about 5 hours short due to the rain.
At the gym, I did a 5k and did my best to imitate our non-hike from earlier. 1k warmup, and then 4k of running or walking at a steep incline. I was dripping by the end! Too bad the sites weren't nearly as spectacular as the ones on our hike would have been.
Back at the room, Mom cooked up a delicious dinner, we packed and now we are lounging watching the Truman Show. Our wake up call comes at 3:30AM....not sure sleep is even worth it! I think I will try to keep the eyelids open until our trans-Atlantic flight.
See you back in Iowa!
