diagnosis - part II

An update so soon?

Yep.

So I saw my physical therapist today at an obesity prevention task force committee meeting that we both sit on. He asked me how my leg was feeling and lo and behold, I did the right thing and told him that I ran a mile yesterday, you know...to work on my form. I also told him that it hurt like hell.

I explained the pain and before I finished he smirked and asked me when our next appointment was.

Three weeks from Monday I told him.

No running until then he told me.

Whaaaaaat?

He thinks I might have a stress fracture.

But the x-rays didn't show a stress fracture!

Bummer. HUGE bummer if I really do have one.

Thankfully he said everything except running was still a go.

I came home and drowned my sorrows in five or six (who's counting??) spoon fulls of chocolate peanut butter that I made the other day (can you say YUM?!).

---------------------

In other news...I swam laps this morning for 30 minutes. Really, I probably swam for 20 minutes and rested for 10...swimming is H-A-R-D!

  1. X-rays can detect fractures, but not stress fractures--they're not sensitive enough. When I had my shin issues, we had to do an MRI to rule out a stress fracture.
    Chin up!

  2. Bummer! Maybe this is a good time to branch out to cycling and start rocking the spandex!

  3. Unfortunately I am going through the same thing. I got a stress fracture after my first 5K in Nov. It took over 2mo to be diagnosed. I am currently doing low impact and strength training in hopes I can start up again soon. Good luck!

  4. Hello from a fellow (former) Iowan! I've found the greener pastures of California now... Bummer to hear about your injury. I'm a triathlete and recently kicked my training up a notch for this year's races. Both of my knees were really troubling me and rest was the only thing that finally helped.

Thank goodness for cross-training! Swimming is hard, but keep at it and everything will finally click one day. At least it did for me! I agree with Kara - get on a bike and become a triathlete!!

  5. Ick - that stinks...a lot! I'm sorry! It is usually a 6 week rest for stress fractures, right? Well, if you have to rest for three weeks until you get official diagnosed than you are half way through the waiting...right?!

I'm trying for optimism here. Good luck, I hope everything works out and most importantly I hope you heal up speedy fast whatever is wrong!

  7. I hope you don't have a stress fracture! I had to get bone scans for mine to show up. They are sneaky little guys. :(

Good job on the swim! Keep at it! :)
